The Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry has invited public feedback on the new draft national policy on persons with disabilities (PwD).
It proposes interventions in disability prevention, education, healthcare, social security and accessibility. It also focussed on other causes of disability, such as malnourishment, medical negligence and impairment caused by disasters. The draft called for a comprehensive national programme on prevention. It stated that one-third of disabilities in children were preventable.

According to the National e-governance service delivery assessment (NeSDA) report, Kerala had the highest overall compliance score amongst all states.
Jammu and Kashmir, assessed for the first time, ranked the highest among Union Territories. Meghalaya and Nagaland are the leading state portals among the northeast and hilly states. The overall score of Tamil Nadu increased the most in 2021 compared to 2019.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting of the Western Zonal Council in Diu, after a gap of two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Western Zonal Council comprises the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Five Zonal Councils were set up through Part-III of the States Re-organisation Act, 1956. Other Councils are Northern Zonal Council, Central Zonal Council, Eastern Zonal Council, and Southern Zonal Council.

World Day Against Child Labour is marked every year on 12 June across the world. The day aims to raise awareness about the exploitation of children who are engaged in child labour.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) declared the World Day Against Child Labour in the year 2002. The theme for this year is “Universal Social Protection to End Child Labour”.

Notes:
Canada is set to become the first country in the world to require that a warning be printed on every cigarette.
The move adds on Canada’s mandate to include graphic photo warnings on the packaging of tobacco products. This policy of Canada started an international trend when it was introduced two decades ago.
