During the Republic Day parade, Arunachal Pradesh highlighted its Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve, a 17-square-kilometer biodiversity hotspot near Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary. Established in 2017, the reserve safeguards the Bugun Liocichla, a critically endangered passerine bird named after the Buguns community. The Buguns, an indigenous group of around 2,000 people, inhabit 12 villages adjacent to Eaglenest. Community reserves, introduced in India’s Wildlife Protection Act, serve as vital buffers, connectors, and migration corridors between national parks and forests, ensuring biodiversity conservation.

Notes:
ISRO and IMD collaborate for a new meteorological satellite, part of a climate observatory series to enhance climate services. The Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F14) will deploy it, joining INSAT-3D and INSAT-3DR. The satellite boasts improvements like night-time imaging, accurate sea surface temperature estimation, and higher spatial resolution. Its payloads include a multispectral imager, a 19-channel sounder, data relay transponder, and a search and rescue transponder.

Jammu’s Dogri folk dancer Romalo Ram was recently honored with the Padma Shri award by the Indian government. Romalo specializes in the traditional Duggar region dance known as Dogri folk dance. Typically performed in groups, the leader sings and dances while others provide beats on Drums and Chimta in a sitting position. Dogra folk-dances, including varieties with men and women, play a significant role in worship, ceremonies, and as a celebratory pastime in Jammu. Other notable dances in the region include Dheku, Phummani, Jagarana, Ckauki, Chhajja, Kuddha, Hirana, Bhagtan, Raas, and Chandrauli.

Notes:
The Prime Minister recently inaugurated the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Supreme Court of India, the apex judicial body established on January 26, 1950. Article 124 of the Constitution of India states that “There shall be a Supreme Court of India”. The Supreme Court is the highest court in India and the final court of appeal for all civil and criminal cases.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted seven consignments from Hong Kong at the Foreign Post Office in New Delhi. Established on December 4, 1957, DRI is India’s premier anti-smuggling agency under the Ministry of Finance. It collects intelligence on smuggling, narcotics, and under-invoicing, collaborating with foreign agencies, analyzing trends, and guiding investigations. With headquarters in New Delhi, DRI operates through 12 zonal units, 35 regional units, and 15 sub-regional units.
