A flock of rare northern pintail ducks was spotted at an extraordinary altitude of 13,500 feet in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. The northern pintail duck, with the scientific name Anas acuta, is a migratory waterfowl known for its striking appearance and fascinating behavior. It migrates across continents, excluding Antarctica, and avoids living or breeding south of the equator. Males have a buff-gray color with a chocolate head, while females are mottled brown. These ducks can grow over 60 cm long, weigh more than 1 kg, and have a wingspan of 91 cm.

The Prime Minister mentioned the Soliga tribe of Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Tiger Reserve (BRT) Tiger Reserve in the 119th Mann Ki Baat and praised their role in tiger conservation. The Soligas are indigenous forest dwellers found in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Their name means “children of bamboo,” reflecting their deep connection with nature. They were the first tribe to have their forest rights recognized inside a tiger reserve in 2011. They speak Sholaga, Kannada, and Tamil and live in bamboo and mud huts. Their economy depends on shifting cultivation, forest produce collection, and honey. They follow Hindu customs, naturism, and animism.

A two-day conference on women peacekeepers in UN missions began in New Delhi, titled “Women in Peacekeeping: A Global South Perspective.” The event is organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Ministry of Defence, and the Centre for UN Peacekeeping. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered the keynote address. The UN was represented by Jean-Pierre Lacroix and Christian Saunders. Women peacekeepers also met with President Droupadi Murmu. The conference focused on peacekeeping technology, training, and regional collaboration from the Global South’s viewpoint.

On 22 February 2025, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for India’s first biopolymer plant in Kumbhi, Lakhimpur Kheri. The plant will be built by Balrampur Sugar Mills Limited at a cost of ₹2,850 crore. It will produce biopolymers using biological methods, supporting eco-friendly industrial growth. The project aims to replace plastic with sustainable biopolymers, promoting environmental protection. This initiative aligns with India’s goal of self-reliance and sustainability.
