Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports launched the “Retired Sportsperson Empowerment Training” (RESET) Programme on National Sports Day in New Delhi. The RESET Programme aims to empower retired athletes who have brought glory to the country. It supports retired athletes by providing them with knowledge and skills for career development, making them more employable. The programme will connect generations, allowing retired athletes to mentor and inspire young aspiring athletes. Their experience will help in developing future champions and boosting sports in India. Applications will be invited through a dedicated portal, with programs based on educational levels of Class 12th and above, and Class 11th and below.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated a state-of-the-art sports academy, sports complex, and sports university in Rajgir on National Sports Day. The Rajgir Sports Complex is equipped with a 24-bed hospital for modern sports injury treatment. This facility is the first in India to combine a sports complex and sports university in one location. The complex supports 24 types of indoor and outdoor games. Three centres of excellence for wrestling, weightlifting, and athletics have been established to promote new talent. The sports university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in sports management, nutrition, and science, with a large sports library.

China’s natural resource ministry released its first survey report on the disputed Sabina Shoal in the South China Sea.
Sabina Shoal, also known as Xianbin Reef, is an oceanic coral atoll located in the eastern part of the Spratlys Islands in the South China Sea. It is situated 75 nautical miles from the Philippine province of Palawan and lies within the Philippines’ 200-nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) under UNCLOS. China claims the shoal and much of the South China Sea as its territory and maintains a presence there, though it is 630 nautical miles from China. Sabina Shoal is 23 km long, composed of two main parts connected by a narrow section, with central lagoons surrounded by a coral ring.

Union minister of state for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Kirti Vardhan Singh inaugurated the ASSOCHAM Environment and Carbon Conference in New Delhi. The conference theme is “Fostering a collaborative ecosystem for achieving net zero by 2070.” The government aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2070 and fulfill the Vikshit Bharat 2047 vision. He highlighted the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission in solving water crises for rural farmers. The government supports industries and stakeholders in addressing environmental issues. The conference includes representatives from industries, research, and environmental organizations.

Assam has identified around 1.2 lakh people as ‘D’ (Dubious or Doubtful) voters, with 41,583 declared as foreigners. The D-Voter concept is specific to Assam, where migration and citizenship are major political issues. It was introduced in Assam in 1997. D-Voters are those who cannot prove their Indian nationality. People with questionable or disputed citizenship were marked as D-Voters during the National Register of Citizens (NRC) preparation. The term ‘Doubtful voter’ is not defined in the Citizenship Act of 1955 or the Citizenship Rules of 2003. The Citizenship Rules of 2003 outline the process for creating the National Population Register and National Register of Indian Citizens.
