Dadasaheb Phalke Award
In April, 2021, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke award is to be conferred to Actor Rajinikanth. Dadasaheb Phalke award is considered as the highest award in Indian cinema. It is conferred by the Directorate of Film Festivals under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Dadasaheb Phalke is considered as the ‘Father of Indian Cinema’ and is credited with having produced India’s first full length feature film, Raja Harishchandra, in 1913. The award is conferred to individuals for their outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. Till date, the award has been posthumously conferred to actor Prithviraj Kapoor and actor Vinod Khanna. It is presented every year at the National Film Awards Ceremony.
