NASA astronaut Frank Rubio has recently created a new US record for the longest spaceflight. He returned to Earth with two Russian cosmonauts, after being stuck in space for just over a year.
The trio landed in a remote area of Kazakhstan, descending in a Soyuz capsule as a replacement after their original ride was hit by space junk and lost all its coolant while docked to the International Space Station.

At the Asian Games in Hangzhou, the Indian men’s 10m air pistol team secured a gold medal.
The team, comprising Sarabjot Singh, Arjun Singh Cheema, and Shiva Narwal, managed to edge out the Chinese team in a close contest, clinching the top spot on the podium.

M.S. Swaminathan, legendary agricultural scientist passed away. He was a recipient of Padma Shri in 1967, the Ramon Magsaysay Award for community leadership in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 1972 and the Padma Vibushan in 1989.
He played a crucial role in ‘Green Revolution,’ a programme that paved the way for jump in production of wheat and rice through adaptation of chemical-biological technology.

World Heart Day is an annual event, observed every year on 29th September. The day is celebrated by organizing various events globally to raise awareness about the heart disease and its preventive measures to manage the cardiovascular diseases.
This year, the theme of the ‘World Heart Day’ is ‘Use Heart, Know Heart’.

Virgin Galactic recently launched the first Pakistani woman into space on its fourth commercial spaceflight, Galactic 04.
The mission took off from Spaceport America in New Mexico. The previous three commercial spaceflights launched in June, August, and September.

The Statue of Equality will be inaugurated by the Ambedkar International Center in Maryland, a state in the United States.
It will be the tallest statue of Ambedkar outside India. This statue is a replica of the world’s largest Ambedkar statue, located in Hyderabad and which stands 125 feet tall. It was crafted by Ram Sutar, who also created Sardar Patel’s ‘Statue of Unity’ in Gujarat.

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued its first-ever fine to Dish Network, ordering the company to pay USD 150,000 for failing to properly de-orbit its satellite.
EchoStar-7 satellite has been in space for more than two decades. Instead of deorbiting the satellite, Dish sent it into a disposal orbit at an altitude low enough to pose an orbital debris risk.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has honored Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi with the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize.
She is being recognized “For her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all”.
