In Football, India defeated Bangladesh by 2-1 in the final of SAFF Under-18 Championship 2019 to lift the title in Kathmandu on 30th September. This is India’s first SAFF U-18 trophy. Ninthoinganba Meetei from India was declared Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the championship.

Noted Physicist Thanu Padmanabhan, a professor of Inter-university Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics in Pune, has won the M P Birla Memorial Award 2019 for his contributions to the world of cosmology. It consists of a citation, trophy and a cheque for Rs 2,51,000.

In Swimming, Indian duo of N Wilson Singh and Satish Kumar Prajapati produced impressive performances to win a gold in 10m platform synchronized event at the ongoing 10th Asian Age Group Championships 2019 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Therefore, India extended their total tally to 60 medals (17 gold, 23 silver and 20 bronze) in the prestigious championships, which is the largest aquatic event in Asia.

The 94th Raising Day of the Military Nursing Service (MNS) has celebrated on 1st of October 2019. The MNS is the only all women corps in the Armed Forces. It came into existence on 28th March 28 1888 with the arrival of first batch of 10 qualified British Nurses in Bombay, to organize nursing in Military hospitals in India. In 1893, it was designated as Indian Army Nursing Service and in 1902 as Queen Alexandra Military Nursing Service (QAMNS). On October1,1926, a permanent Nursing Service for the India troops was formed and was designated as the Indian Military Nursing Service (IMNS).

The first-ever National Nutrition Survey have been conducted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and UNICEF between February 2016 and October 2018 to measure malnutrition. The key findings of the survey, which are yet to be made public,are as follows: nearly 10% of children in the age group of 5-9 years and adolescents in the age group of 10-19 years are pre-diabetic, 5% are overweight and another 5% suffer from Blood Pressure (BP). The report is providing first time hard evidence of the coexistence of obesity and under-nutrition among school going children.

‘The Gandhian Challenge’ have been launched by Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog’s Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) and UNICEF India on the occasion of 150th birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This innovation challenge provides a platform for every child across India to ideate innovative solutions for a sustainable India of their dreams, using Gandhi’s principles. The problem statement for the Gandhian Challenge is: “Share your innovative solutions/ideas to create a futuristic and sustainable world of your dreams, following Gandhi’s principles”.  The contest  – open for every child in India from 2 October to 20 October – also celebrates 70 years of partnership between Government of India and UNICEF India to enable ‘Every Right for Every Child’.

Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara has become the first non-British official to take charge of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) as the President and he will hold the post for one year. His  tenure will include two Tests at Lord’s – against West Indies and Pakistan – and the launch of The Hundred competition.

According to a report ‘Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat 2019’ released by Ministry of Railways, the Jaipur station  has topped the list of cleanest railway stations in the non-suburban group of stations with a total score of 931.75, followed by Jodhpur, Durgapura, Jammu Tawi, Gandhinagar-Jp, Suratgarh, Vijayawada, Udaipur city, Ajmer and Haridwar. In the suburban group of stations, Maharashtra’s Andheri station has topped the list. The cleanest railway zone 2019 award has been given to the North Western Railway Zone under which the Jaipur railway station falls. The survey has been carried out by the Quality Council of India (QCI).

Dr Hargovind Laxmishanker Trivedi (87) was the renowned nephrologist, immunologist and stem cell researcher. He passed away in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on 2nd October 2019. He was an expert in handling kidney transplant surgeries & was awarded Padma Shri in 2015 for his contribution to society as a nephrologist.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has launched the YSR Vahana Mitra welfare scheme under which the owner-driver of an auto-rickshaw (or taxicab) gets Rs 10,000 grant per annum. The amount is meant to meet maintenance expenses, and for obtaining insurance and fitness certificates among other documents.
