Sudan’s military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group are engaged in armed conflict in the capital, Khartoum, and in other places, raising fears of a civil war.
The RSF is commanded by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commonly known as Hemedti or Little Mohamad. He currently holds the position of deputy head of Sudan’s ruling Sovereign Council.

Protect Hornbills Project is a community-driven project aimed at conserving hornbills. Nyishi Tribe is playing a major role in this initiative.
Hornbill Nest Adoption Program (HNAP), a community-based hornbill conservation programme, was started in 2012. HNAP operates in the forests outside Arunachal Pradesh’s Pakke Tiger Reserve.

The Indian Army is set to operationalize the Command Cyber Operations and Support Wings (CCOSW) as part of its steps to modernize its online network.
The decision to set up the CCOSW was made during the Army Commanders Conference, the biannual event that took place in hybrid format.

Farm Machinery Technology Summit was inaugurated recently by the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar.
It is organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Tractor and Mechanization Association (TMA). There are about 85 percent small farmers in the country.

United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Cambodia have finalised the terms of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The UAE will benefit from the agreement by exporting machinery, oils and lubricants, and cars and automotive parts.

Spain has recently banned dwarf bullfighting. It is an event that features dwarves dressed in costumes participating in bullfighting.
Spain’s parliament outlawed ‘comic’ bullfighting events, including those involving people with dwarfism. This decision has been applauded by disability rights organisations.

A research paper, titled “The State of India’s Pollution Control Boards: Are they in the green?”, was released recently.
It has raised questions whether state pollution control boards and pollution control committees have effectively fulfilled their mandate to control pollution.

Labour Day is observed across the world on May 1. It celebrates the contribution of labourers and the working class.
May 1 is marked as May Day, also referred to as International Workers’ Day and Labour Day in different countries across the world. Although the US and Canada observed the first Monday of September as Labor Day.

The World Bank recently announced the Business Ready(B-READY) project as a replacement for the Doing Business rankings, which was cancelled two years ago.
The pilot edition of the series will be published in the spring of 2024, covering 54 economies. Business Ready focuses on 10 topics covering the lifecycle of a firm.
