The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has Union Finance Minister as chairperson, the Union Minister of State (Finance) from the Centre. Each state can nominate a minister in-charge as a member.
The two-day meeting of the 47th Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council was recently held in Chandigarh. The Council agreed to levy 18 per cent tax on cheques, lose or in book form. Hotel accommodations below Rs 1,000 will be taxed at 12 per cent among other changes.

The Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government cleared a proposal to rename Aurangabad as Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv.
The cabinet also cleared a proposal to name the upcoming Navi Mumbai International airport after the late DB Patil, a popular leader among farmers, workers and landowners for protesting for their rights and welfare.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out the maiden flight test of the ‘autonomous flying wing technology demonstrator’ in Karnataka.
The test, carried out from the Aeronautical Test Range in Chitradurga, Karnataka is being seen as an important milestone towards developing unmanned aircraft technology in India.

The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MoSDE) has signed an agreement to create a collaborative ecosystem for imparting skill development training in capital goods sector.
It aims to provide training in several engineering trades through Qualification Packs (QPs) developed by Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) related sector skill councils.

The International Day of Parliamentarism is observed every year on 30 June, to recognise the importance of parliamentary systems of government in shaping modern societies.
This year, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its members will observe the day under the theme of ‘Public engagement’ as the ‘Global Parliamentary Report on Public engagement in the work of parliament’ was recently released.

The Delhi government introduced new assessment guidelines for school students. Under the new criteria, students will now be assessed for the impact of mindset curricula in their behaviour, along with other scholastic subjects.
It includes Happiness and Deshbhakti curricula for classes 3-8, while students of Class 9 and Class 11 will be assessed for Deshbhakti and Entrepreneurship Mindset Curricula.

International Day of Cooperatives is celebrated on the first Saturday of July every year. The day was designated by the United Nations.
International Day of Cooperatives was observed around the world on July 2 this year. This year will mark the 100th International Day of Cooperatives, also known as Coops Day. This year’s theme for International Day of Cooperatives is – “Cooperatives Build a Better World.”

NTPC signed a Memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Government of Rajasthan to develop 10 GW Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park in Rajasthan.
It aims to achieve the target of 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. NTPC REL is also developing one UMREPP of 4.75 GW capacity in Rann of Kutch, Gujarat.

India shipped 13, 69,264 MT of seafood worth Rs 57,586.48 crore (USD 7.76 billion) during 2021-22, despite heavy odds.
During the FY 2021-22, the export improved in rupee term by 31.71%. Frozen shrimp remained the major export item in terms of quantity and value. USA is the largest market of frozen shrimp, followed by China and European Union.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Digital India Week 2022 in Gandhinagar in Gujarat. The theme for Digital India Week is Catalyzing New India’s Techade.
The Prime Minister also launched ‘Digital India Bhashini’ to enable easy access to the internet and digital services in Indian languages. ‘Digital India GENESIS’ – a National Deep-tech Startup Platform, to support successful start-ups in Tier-II and Tier-III cities with a total outlay of 750 crore rupees was also launched. A global repository of key projects implemented under India Stack ‘Indiastack.global’ was launched.
