The Army on July 2, 2021 inducted the first production lot of 12 Short Span Bridging System (SSBS)-10m, designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in association with Larsen & Toubro Limited, the production agency. According to defence ministry, the SSBS-10m plays a crucial role of bridging the gaps up to 9.5m as a single span providing a 4m wide, fully decked roadway, ensuring faster movement of the troops.

Maana Patel made history on July 2, 2021 as she became the first Indian female swimmer to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics through the ‘Universality quota’. The Universality quota allows one male and one female competitor from a country to participate in the Olympics, provided no other swimmer from the same gender qualifies for the Games or receives a FINA invite based on his or her Olympic Selection time (B time). Maana Patel, 21, will join Sajan Prakash and Srihari Natarajan in India’s swimming squad for this month’s Summer Olympics.

Sustainable Development Report was prepared and released by experts from UN Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN). This year, Finland was ranked highest in the index. As per Government, Finland has topped the index based on its achievements with respect to the goals related to poverty reduction, health, education etc.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has issued a moratorium on federal executions while it reviews policies and procedures. U.S. President Joe Biden had said on his campaign website that he would legislate the end of capital punishment at the federal level and incentivize states to follow suit.

Virachey National Park is one of the two Cambodian ASEAN Heritage Parks located at the northeastern part of the country and spanning across more than 3,000 square kilometres. It overlaps Ratanakiri and Stung Treng Provinces. The national park, under the jurisdiction of the Cambodian Ministry of Environment, consists of semi-evergreen lowlands, montane forests, upland savannah, and several patches of mixed deciduous forests.

Illegal logging is a major concern in this national forest since the 2000s, leading to a vast expanse of forest being degraded at an exponential scale. However, this situation has improved over the recent years. The rare sighting of giant muntjac in the recent months is the outcome of this progress.

Maharashtra has become the 5th state in India and 125th global state to join the “Under2 Coalition” to fight the climate change. The other four states are: Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana and West Bengal.
The Under2 Coalition is a global community of state and regional governments committed to ambitious climate action in line with the Paris Agreement. It started as a MoU which was signed by 12 founding jurisdictions in 2015 in Sacramento, California.

India’s first Agriculture Export Facilitation Centre has been established in Pune. It will work as a one-stop centre for the exporters in agricultural sector.
The centre was established by the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) in association with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
