As per provisional estimates released by National Statistical Office (NSO), India’s gross domestic product (GDP) for the July-September quarter (Q2) of the financial year 2022-23 slowed to 6.3 per cent.
The GDP saw a growth of 13.5 per cent in the preceding April-June quarter of 2022-23. It was cut down mainly by the poor performance of manufacturing and mining sectors.

Notes:
The 12th Edition of Exercise Agni Warrior, a bilateral exercise between the Singapore and Indian Army concluded at Devlali (Maharashtra).
Exercise Agni Warrior, involved joint firepower planning, execution and use of New Generation Artillery Equipment. Indigenously manufactured Artillery guns and howitzers also participated in the final phase of the exercise.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras is partnering with Australian Universities to launch ‘Australia-India Centre for Energy (AICE).
IIT Madras and Deakin University in Australia are leading the Centre, which aims to work on UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also aims to promote collaboration among universities, research institutes and industry from both countries in energy domain.

Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare has launched a nationwide campaign for promotion of Digital Life Certificate for Central Government pensioners.
The objective of this campaign is to promote the use of Face Authentication technology and Digital Life Certificate, DLC to ensure transparency and ease of usage.

Indian boxer Urvashi Singh beat Thailand’s national champion Thanchanok Phanan to clinch the WBC International Super Bantamweight title.
The boxer also won the WBC Asia Silver crown in Colombo. She is now the World Boxing Council Asia Continental and International Champion.

Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar, professor emeritus at Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI), has been appointed as part-time chairperson of National Statistical Commission of India (NSCI) for three years.
The National Statistical Commission of India is an autonomous body which was formed in June 2005 under the recommendation of Rangarajan commission.

Notes:
Estonia, a country in Northern Europe signed a USD 200 million contract with the United States to purchase High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).
The contract is Estonia’s largest arms procurement project ever. In addition to the weapon system, Estonia will also procure ammunition, communications solutions, training, logistics, and life-cycle solutions.

Ministry of Culture in association with Department of Post launched ‘Daakroom’, the famous letter writing carnival.
The event was organised under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, at Raj Ghat, New Delhi. The event is supported by India Post, Ministry of Culture and Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, with the aim of reviving the art of letter writing in India.

In the FIFA World Cup 2022, France defeats Poland and qualifies for quarter-finals of the tournament.
Olivier Giroud becomes all-time top scorer of France with 52 goals. Kylian Mbappé the first player to score nine World Cup goals before 24 years.

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won the 10 metre air pistol mixed team title at the 65th National Shooting Championship Competitions.
Karnataka’s Divya TS and Imroz clinched silver while Punjab and ONGC shared the bronze medals. In the junior mixed team pistol, the gold was won by Uttar Pradesh’s Anjali and Sagar after beating Uttarakhand’s Yashasvi and Abhinav. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh won the bronze medals.
