India successfully tests Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle
With this launch, India became the fourth country after the US, Russia and China to develop and successfully test hypersonic technology, which would pave the way for the development of missiles travelling at 6-times the speed of sound. Developed by the DRDO, it was tested at APJ Abdul Kalam testing range in Balasore, Odisha.
UNICEF to lead procurement, supply of COVID-19 vaccines
The UN Children’s Fund is to ensure that all countries have safe, fast and equitable access to initial doses of COVID-19 vaccines whenever available. The organisation is already the world’s largest single vaccine buyer, procuring more than 2 billion doses of various vaccines annually for routine immunisation and outbreak response on behalf of over 100 countries.
World Solar Technology Summit to be organised by ISA
More than 26,000 participates from 149 countries have registered to join the virtual summit, which is to be held on 8th September. International Solar Alliance-organised summit is expected to focus on sustainable, innovative and affordable clean technologies that are using solar energy.
RBI announces Rs.10,000 crore OMO for sale, purchase of government securities
The apex bank is to conduct simultaneous purchase and sale of government securities under Open Market Operation (OMO) for Rs.10,000 crore on 10th September. This auction is the first of the two tranches of Rs.20,000 crore OMO announced on August 31.
ISA mulls setting up World Solar Bank
The World Solar Bank is to finance the needs of member countries in the solar space. The matter will be decided by ISA Assembly, the top-decision making body. If approved, ISA will support the bank in the initial stages, negotiate separate treaty, finalise the headquarters and provide 30% profit annually to ISA to meet its expenses in the absence of membership fee.
China holds additional military exercises from today in its northeastern and eastern coast
This is the latest of the series of unusual back-to-back drills against a backdrop of rising tensions in the region. The first set of exercise is to be held at the Bohai Sea, off the northeastern port of Qinhuangdao.
TN releases Electronics Hardware Manufacturing Policy, 2020
This comprehensive policy aims to achieve multi-pronged objectives. By 2025, the policy intends to increase the output of the state’s electronic industry to $100 billion. During the same year, it also aims to ensure the state contributes to one-fourth of India’s total electronic exports to the world.
