 India bans 118 more apps amid border tensions with China

Ministry of Information and Technology, for the third time, has banned an additional 118 mobile applications, including the famous PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). This move comes amid the India-China border tensions along the LAC. Both sides are involved in a border standoff for over 4 months in Ladakh region.

Cabinet approves introduction of J&K Official Language Bill, 2020

The proposed Bill makes Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi and English as official languages in Jammu and Kashmir, which is in line with the long-pending public demand and ensuring the spirit of equality.

Government sets up Jammu and Kashmir Biodiversity Council

The 10-member council is to ensure conservation of biodiversity and sustainable use of its components in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It will be chaired by Principal Chief Conservation of Forests. Director of the Forest Research Institute, Jammu and Kashmir will serve as the member secretary of the council.

Assam passes Bill to safeguard tangible heritage excluded in national and state laws

Assam Heritage (Tangible) Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Maintenance Bill, 2020 was passed by the Assam Assembly to cover all those heritages that have been in existence of at least 75 years and have not been declared as national importance by Parliament or not covered under the Assam Ancient Monument and Records Act, 1959.

Maharashtra declares entire Aarey land as reserve forest

The state government has decided to apply Section 4 of the Indian Forest Act to Aarey land in Goregaon. This move will prevent the construction of the Metro 3 carshed in Aarey. The proposed project was opposed by the environmentalists as it would disturb the natural habitats of wild animals and destroy Aarey.

US budget deficit to be at all-time high

The Congressional Budget Office estimates federal budget deficit to reach a record $3.3 trillion amid the pandemic. The increasing deficit means the federal debt would exceed annual GDP next year, a situation similar to the one during the aftermath of World War II, when the debt exceeded the size of the economy.

VK Yadav becomes Railway Board’s first-ever Chairman and CEO

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approves the appointment of the current chairman of the Railway Board VK Yadav as the CEO, making him the first to hold such a post in Indian Railways’ history. The Centre had earlier restructured Railway Board as a part of larger reform.
