India bag 4 bronze medals at the Junior Weightlifting Championships

  • India bagged 4 bronze medals with ‘Sanjita Chanu’ winning three of them in women’s 48kg category on the opening day of 18th Asian Junior Weightlifting Championships at Pattaya in Thailand

  • Yukar Sibi added another bronze for India in men’s 62kg category section in clean and jerk by lifting 151kg
  • India are being represented by 15 lifters, including 7 women, in the Asian Junior Weightlifting Championships at Pattaya, Thailand

     

India earns Rs 215.27 Crore from flower exports

  • India earned about Rs 215.27 Crore from exports of flowers to over 90 countries last year
  • The country shipped over 21,845 tonnes of flowers to 93 countries during the period, India and China have large portions of areas under floriculture
  • Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are the top flower producing states in the country
  • Flowers worth Rs 44.81 Crore were exported to the USA in April-December 2010
  • Other foremost destinations of Indian flowers delivery were Netherlands, UK, UAE and Germany
  • Indian flowers also found markets even in smaller countries like Sierra Leone, Seychelles, Mali, St. Kitts Nevis and Finland

     

858 million mark crossed by the Mobile telephone users

The Mobile telephone users in India crossed 858 million mark in July 2011

As per the data released by TRAI, telecom operators in the country have added 6.67 million new mobile connections 
India is the world’s 2nd biggest mobile phone market, has had an addition of 19 million users on an avg in 2010

National Transition Council (NTC) recognized by IMF as legitimate Libyan Government

  • The rebel’s NTC (National Transitional Council) has been recognized by the International Monetary Fnd (IMF) as the legitimate Government in Libya, promising the war desolated nation of fast and sustainable economic recovery
  • The IMF alleged that it is ready to assist the NTC in its pains to endorse quick and sustainable economic revival

One more satellite launching site to be set up by the Government

  • Government has resolved to establish one more launching site for satellites
  • The decision to locate a novel site was taken at a meeting held by the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary T K A Nair in New Delhi. It was determined that a viability study to be conducted for the fresh site 
  • The two launch pads for satellite in the country are located at Sriharikota High Altitude Range, SHAR, both affected during the cyclone season
  • During last few years, there have been requests from many countries for launching their satellites in India
