Know The People
Samdhong Rinpoche
His real name is Prof Samdhong Lobsang Tenzin and is recognized as 5th Samdhong Rinpoche and is considered the reincarnation of the 4th Samdhong Rinpoche. He is the current prime Minister of Tibetan Government in Exile. He fled to exile in 1959 after the Chinese invasion of Tibet. From October 1961, he served as the religious teacher of the Tibetan School in Shimla, later becoming the acting principal of Shimla Tibetan School in 1963. He returned to religious teaching, at Darjeeling Tibetan School, the following year. From 1991 to 1995 he was specially appointed by the 14th Dalai Lama as one of the deputies of the Parliament of the Central Tibetan Administration and later was unanimously elected as its Chairman. From 1996 to 2001 he was elected member of the Parliament from Kham province and also its Chairman.

Chinna Raju Srither
Chinna Raju Srither is national champion in archery and a five gold medals at the national level in 2009. Srither has been ranked first in the selection for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Delhi in the year 2010. Recently he requested the Central Government to provide him with financial support, so that he can pursue his dream of reaching the top. Belongs to a moderate background and has no own equipments.

International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS) Award to Ganga Hospital, Coaimbatore
Ganga Hospital based at Coiambatore has bagged the prestigious International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS) Award for extensive research and subsequent new invention in the field of spine surgery for the second time. The society is a nonprofit organisation based at Auckland, New Zealand.

Chic Sikh of 2009: Manmohan Singh
sikhchic.com is a popular Sikh magazine and it has named Dr. Manmohan Singh ‘Chic Sikh’ of 2009. Other people sharing the same honour are Harvinder Singh Phoolka , a lawer based at Delhi and Saran Singh a former bureaucrate. Harvinder Singh Phoolka has been associated with the 1984 riots case and has raised the voice of Sikhs.

Honorary title of general of the Nepal Army – General Deepak Kapoor
Indian Army chief Gen Deepak Kapoor will be decorated with the honorary title of general of the Nepal Army when he visits Nepal in This Month. His Nepali Counterpart Gen Chhatraman Singh Gurung had visited India recently. Nepal’s first president Ram Baran Yadav will confer the general title on Kapoor.

Order of Canada Award to Shrawan Kumar
Shrawan Kumar, belonging to Allahabad has received Canada’s highest Civilian Award -The Order of Canada for three decades of pioneering research on workplace injury and the spine at the University of Alberta. The Order of Canada was established in 1967 to mark the centenary of the formation of the Canadian Confederation.

M. Ramadoss is the current chairman and managing director of the Delhi-headquartered Oriental Insurance Co. He has been selected as Next Chairman of New India Assurance. R.K. Kaul will be new Chairman of Oriental Insurance Company.

Billy Arjan Singh
Billy Arjan Singh who was popularly known as Kunvar Billy , a Padma Shri Awardee of 1995, and world wildlife gold medalist on 1996, Order of the Golden Ark 1997 and life time awardee in tiger conservation 1999 was a famous conservationasit and wildlife expert. He has died.
The latest awards won by Kunvar Billy are Padma Bhushan in 2006, J.Paul Getty Wildlife Conservation award in 2004. This J.Paul Getty Wildlife Conservation award is conferred by World Wildlife Fund. He was in positive and negative controversy for bringing up 3 orpaned leopards and a tiger cub.

    It was one of the questions in IDBI PO exam: which CEO said that "India is not a land of poor but a land or opportunities" in his speech?
    can you please tell me the correct answer. I regret that the statement might not be exact, it's just memory based and I don't even remember the options.
