CBI targets Facebook to take help from netizens

• The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has joined social networking site Facebook, popularly known as FB to get help from netizens in cracking cases. CBI’s Bhopal unit became the first unit to go online on Facebook. The agency has plans that all the wings based across the country will be going online. The reason is originally that people are nowadays hi-tech and are seen updating on almost all the happenings in and around the world. If they can share any information, the agency can use it in solving the cases. At present, the agency will seek help in cracking murder case of Bhopal based RTI activist, Shehla Masood through its FB account.

NALCO signs JV agreement with NPCIL for Nuclear Plant

• National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) signed an agreement to form a Joint venture company for establishment of Nuclear Power Plants in India.

Mentally ill can’t be hanged, Bhullar tells apex court

• The death sentence can not be carried out in respect of a person who is mentally ill, the Supreme Court was told by Devender Pal Singh Bhullar who was given capital punishment for a 1993 blast here which killed nine people. He has sought commutation of his execution to life term on this ground.

Shad Nongkrem festival celebrated in Meghalaya

• Shad Nongkrem , the thanksgiving festival of tribal Khasi was celebrated with traditional fanfare and fervour by people from Hima Khyrim (erstwhile independent Khasi state) Smit village, about 20 km from Shillong– the state capital of Meghalaya, is the cultural centre of the Khasis.

• South African Cricket Team’s Wicketkeeper Mark Boucher became the first cricketer to take 500 Test catches.

for cardiac surgeon Dr M K Moosakunhi

• Renowned and Veteran Kerala-based cardiac surgeon, Dr M K Moosakunhi, selected for the prestigious Bharat Excellence Award and gold medal for the best heart surgeon of India, instituted by Delhi-based Friendship Forum of India, for his outstanding work and contribution to the nation in the field of heart surgery. Dr Moosakunhi, Chairman of Dr Moosa Heart Foundation and Chief Heart Surgeon of the Lakeshore Hospital had performed over 16,000 open heart operations successfully and contributed immensely to developing and bringing forward the latest technologies in Heart Bypass operations, Heart Valve operations and Heart Operation for children in India. He was the only heart surgeon in the country who had undergone advanced training in Modern Artificial Heart Technology.

Russia, Georgia sign WTO accession agreement

• Russia and former Soviet Republic of Georgian signed an agreement that removes the last barriers from Russia s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The deal provides in particular for the deployment of international observers to monitor the movement of goods across sections of the borders of the former Georgian regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Russia, the only major economy outside the WTO, has been trying to join the organisation since 1993. The last remaining obstacle for its entry to the world trade body has been Georgia, which has refused to give green signal to Russia s entry ever since the two countries fought a brief war in August 2008.
  The agreement with all member-states is necessary for accession to the WTO.
