The farmers want that toddy tapping should be allowed in the rural areas. Tody has 4.5% alocohol compared to IMFL which has 42.8% alcohol. Toddy was permitted in states like Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Puducherry.
Pachlinga Darshan:

All-India Conference of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) , New Delhi.
The Central Administrative Tribunal has been established for adjudication of disputes with respect to recruitment and conditions of service of persons appointed to public services and posts in connection with the affairs of the Union or other local authorities within the territory of India or under the control of Government of India and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. This was done in pursuance of the amendment of Constitution of India by Articles 323A.

Cyprus: Indian businessmen could explore markets in the European Union, Russia and Mediterranean countries with Cyprus as the base. About UN Security Council Permanent Seat :
Should a decision on the reform of the UN Security Council be made, India would deserve a permanent seat in such a body which would have enhanced authority and would enjoy the highest possible approval. This is what President Demetris Christofias, said.

The French India Viduthalai Kaala Makkal Iyyakkam, a movement striving for the cause of the people who opted Indian citizenship at the time of the merger of Puducherry with the Indian union, celebrated the ‘Freedom Day’ of Puducherry from the French colonialism.
8th meeting of the Indo-Saudi Joint Commission, Riyadh
8th meeting of the Indo-Saudi Joint Commission concluded at the Royal Conference Palace in Riyadh on October 31, 2009.Both Saudi and Indian businessmen will now get long-term multiple entry visas to visit each other’s country – this was one of the major decisions taken at this meeting.Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Saudi Commerce and Industry Minister Abdullah Zainal Alireza led the discussions on behalf of the Indian and Saudi teams respectively.
Rajyotsav-2009 begins in Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh celebrated its 9th Formation Day . Rajyotsav-2009 is to be to be celebrated here for a week.
Chhattisgarh was formed when the sixteen Chhattisgarhi-speaking southeastern districts of Madhya Pradesh gained statehood on November 1, 2000.
The new States of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand came into being with the enactment of the Madhya Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2000 and the Bihar Reorganization Act, 2000, with effect from 1st November, 2000 and 15th November, 2000, respectively. Consequent upon the creation of the States of Chhattisgarh and
Jharkhand, a sizable portion of the Scheduled Areas of the erstwhile State of Madhya Pradesh stands transferred to Chhattisgarh and the entire Scheduled Areas of the former Bihar State stand transferred to the newly formed Jharkhand State and the Scheduled Areas were redefined as per the Scheduled Areas (States of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh) Order, 2003.
Kiran Bedi for CIC:
Aamir Khan , Anna Hazare Subhash Chandra and Magsaysay awardees Arvind Kejriwal and Sandeep Pandey have made the demand in letters to the prime minister Manmohan Singh to appoint the country’s first woman police officer, Kiran Bedi, as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC). A new CIC is likely to be chosen this week by a committee comprising of Manomhan Singh, Advani and Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily.
The post of CIC fell vacant after Central Information Commission chief Wajahat Habibullah accepted Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s request to head the state information commission. Habibullah resigned last month.
Hamir Utsav Himachal Pradesh
The two-day Hamir Utsav commenced at Hamir Pur today with Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal being the chief guest on this occasion.
53rd Foundation Day of Madhya Pradesh:
Madhya Pradesh was created in 1950 from the former British Central Provinces and Berar and the princely states of Makrai and Chhattisgarh, with Nagpur as the capital of the state. The new states of Madhya Bharat, Vindhya Pradesh, and Bhopal were formed out of the Central India Agency.
In 1956, the states of Madhya Bharat, Vindhya Pradesh, and Bhopal were merged into Madhya Pradesh, and the Marathi-speaking southern region Vidarbha, which included Nagpur, was ceded to Bombay state. Bhopal became the new capital of the state.
Madhya Pradesh, in its present form, came into existence on 1 November 2000, following its bifurcation to create a new state of Chhattisgarh. The undivided Madhya Pradesh was founded on 1 November 1956. On 1 November 2009, Foundation day was observed. Governor : Rameshwar Thakur
53th Foundation Day of Karnataka:
Mysore State was created on November 1, 1956, with the passing of the States Reorganisation Act. It was renamed Karnataka in 1973.
Sonepur Cattle Fair :
Asia’s largest cattle fair inaugurated in Sonepur. The internationally famous Asia`s largest cattle fair was inaugurated today on the Kartik Purnima at Sonepur in Saran district. The fair, spread over 20 sq km area, would continue for 25 days.
Aishwarya first goodwill ambassador of Smile Train:
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is the first goodwill ambassador of Smile Train — an international cleft charity organisation. Aishwarya has also extended support of her charity organisation, Aishwarya Rai Foundation, for spreading awareness and garnering recourses to help the worldwide movement of Smile Train, a release said here today.
What is Smile Train ?
Smile Train is an international charity helping children with cleft lips and palates, founded in 1999 by Brian Mullaney and Charles Wang.
Smile Train uses technology such as surgery-training software and grading of operations via digital imaging to make it “one of most productive charities, dollar for deed, in the world.
Smile Train currently has over 150 Smile Train partner hospitals in India and has helped in over 200,000 surgeries. According to the organisation, in India alone, over one million children await surgery and currently only 50 per cent of children born with cleft in India ever get the necessary care. The organisation partners with near 1,100 hospitals worldwide for helping the children living with unrepaired clefts. Maharatna will be conferred to 5 companies:
Department of Public Enterprises(DPE) Secretary Bhaskar Chatterjee, After ‘Navaratna’, our department will come out with a new label– ‘Maharatna’–which will be conferred on certain companies giving them far more power than they had ever before. There is a proposal to confer this status of highest level of excellence on the public sector Navaratnas Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Indian Oil Coporation (IOC), National Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC) and Coal India Limited (CIL).
Under the proposal, the ‘Maharatna’ companies will be empowered to go for investment up to Rs 50,000 crore both in the country and in abroad without having to seek government approval. But the amount should not exceed one-third of the company’s net worth.
The ‘Navaratna’ companies are allowed to invest up to Rs 25,000 crore on their own.
Dr YSR Abhaya Hastham Scheme
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah has formally launched the ‘Dr YSR Abhaya Hastham,’ Pension-cum-Insurance Scheme for women members of the Self Help Groups (SHGs). It is for elderly women who would get a montly pension between Rs 500 to Rs 2500 after attaining the age of 60 years.
No Dating ! Allah is watching us
The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has been declared as a “no dating place”. A banner in the Gombak campus cautions students from dating in the university compound. It reads: “IIUM is an Islamic territory. No dating. Allah is watching us.”
