Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Telecom skill excellence awards

On December 18, 2020, the Union Minister of Communications and Electronics and Information Technology Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad presented Telecom Skill Excellence Awards. The first prize was won by Srinivas Karanam. He won the award for developing a cost effective technical solution for deep sea communication. The technology issues weather alerts to fishermen and facilitates communication among them.

“Reporting India” book released

On December 19, 2020, the External Affairs Minister S Jai Shankar released “Reporting India” book. The book was written by Asian News International (ANI) Chairman Prem Prakash.

Population in Indian prison down by 10.42%

On December 19, 2020, a report was released by the Commonwealth Human Rights initiative. According to the report, the population in Indian prisons has reduced by 10.42% between April 2020 and June 2020 due to covid-19. The title of the report was “Responding to the pandemic presence and overcrowding”. The report urged the state governments to continue the measures to decongest prison.

Goa Liberation day

On December 19, 2020, the 60th anniversary of Liberation of Goa was celebrated. Goa was liberated from the 450 years Portuguese rule on December 19, 1961 .

On December 19, 2020, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari laid foundation stone for thirty-three National Highway Projects in Karnataka.

Wistron agrees to lapses in payment of wages in Karnataka plant

The iPhone maker Wistron that makes Apple iPhones agreed to lapses in payment to workers at the Narasapura facility, Bengaluru. The company was vandalised by irate workers on December 13, 2020.
