AIIB to fund Mumbai Urban Transport Project III

Centre, Maharashtra government, Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation and AIIB signed a loan agreement for Mumbai Urban Transport Project III, which would cost $500 million. The project is expected to improve network capacity, service quality and safety of Mumbai’s suburban railway system.

MY IAF mobile application launched for aspirants

The Indian Air Force launched ‘MY IAF’ mobile application to provide career-related information for those aspiring to join IAF. The application was developed in association with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).

Indian satellite detects extreme UV light from galaxy 9.3 billion light-years away

India’s first multi-wavelength satellite, AstroSat, has detected extreme UV light from galaxy called AUDFs01 located 9.3 billion light-years away from the Earth. The discovery was made by a team of astronomers from Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA).

Rare fish Tor sighted in Sileru River

Mahseer was sighted and fished out of the upper part of Sileru River in Andhra Pradesh. The rare fish, with the scientific name ‘Tor’, is listed under the endangered category by the IUCN. It is commonly found in rivers in the Himalayan region.

Republican Party officially renominates Trump, Pence for Presidential polls

Trump and Pence are renominated by the Republican Party for November’s Presidential polls, making it official that this duo will be up against the Democratic Party candidates, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who have formally been nominated for the post of President and Vice President respectively.

Tamil Nadu tops list of Mudra loan recipients

Around 15 crore loans worth Rs.4.78 lakh crore has been disbursed to women borrowers since the launch of PMMY. Of this, Tamil Nadu topped the list in availing the loan. It was followed by West Bengal, Karnataka, Bihar and Maharashtra.

NABARD unveils debt and credit guarantee scheme

Structured Finance and Partial Guarantee Programme to NBFC-MFIs was introduced to ensure unrestricted credit flow to pandemic-hit rural areas. It provides partial guarantee on loans extended to small and mid-sized micro finance institutions.

RBI: Rs.2,000 notes not printed in 2019-20

The recently released RBI annual report stated that the currency notes of Rs.2,000 denomination were not printed in 2019-20 and their circulation has declined over the years.
