Indian Universities under United Nation Programme
- The UNAI (United Nations Academic Impact) is an programme open to universities and other institutions of higher education and research
- It accomplishes activities in support of the mission and as per the instructions of the UN
- Objective: To encourage a culture of intellectual cooperation, serving as a point of contact for ideas and proposals relevant to the UN mandate, and promote direct engagement by institutions in programmes, projects and initiatives for the realization of the MDGs and objectives of the UN
- Around 50 Indian institutions have joined UNAI so far
- UNAI gives active support to 10 ubiquitously accepted principles in the areas of human rights, literacy, sustainability and conflict resolution, which are based on the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the MDGs goal

Chhattisgarh to have 9 New Districts with effect from Jan 2012, taking total no: to 27
Chhattisgarh to have 9 new districts with effect from January 2012, taking the overall number of districts in the state to 27
The new districts:
Sukma, Kondagaon, Gariabandh, Balodabazar, Balod, Bemetera, Mungeli, Surajpur and Balrampur
Google to Buy Motorola Cell Unit for $12.5 bn

- The deal will enhance Google’s competitive edge in the mobile computing arena and give it access to Motorola’s range of Android operating system based offerings
- Both companies have a strong presence in India
- Android is a free and open source mobile operating system for mobile devices developed by the Open Handset Alliance led by Google
- Google acquired Android Inc. in August 2005, making Android Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Google Inc
- The State Government of Jharkhand launched the “Dal Bhat Scheme”
- Under this Scheme: Lunch to be provided to a poor person at Rs 5, a person to get 200 gm of rice, pulses and chokha
- In order to execute the scheme, 100 food centres in all the 24 districts opened
- The food centres tol be run by NGOs and monitored by the district administration

Sattelite Towns
Ministry of Urban Development running a pilot scheme for Infrastructure Development in satellite town around mega-cities
The scheme will assist in the development of infrastructure facilities related to Solid Waste Management, Water Supply and Sewerage in the selected towns to guide their future growth and ameliorate pressure on mega-cities
It also provides for implementation of reforms such as e-governance, property tax, double entry accounting, creation of barrier free built environment and energy & water audit
The 8 satellite towns identified for implementation of the scheme are:
Vikarabad (Andhra Pradesh), Sanand (Gujarat), Sonipat (Haryana), Kankapura (Karnataka), Vasai-Virar (Maharashtra), Sriperumbudur (Tamilnadu), Pilkhua (Uttar Pradesh) and New Town (West Bengal)
