Mr Bhupinder Singh has been appointed as the new Director General of West Bengal Police.

Mr Nandan Nilekani, co-chairman of Infosys Technologies, has been appointed by the Government to head a newly created authority that will supervise the creation of a unique identification database of the country’s citizens. As chairperson of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIA), Mr Nilekani would get the rank of a Cabinet Minister. Following Mr Nilekani would step down from the board of Infosys. Mr Nilekani’s resignation would be effective from July 9.
About UIA: The Unique Identification Authority of India will work under the aegis of the Planning Commission and is aimed at providing a unique identity to the targeted population of the Government’s flagship schemes such as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan and Bharat Nirman. The proposed Authority will be entrusted with the task of laying down plans and policies to implement the unique identification scheme across the country. It will own and operate the unique identification number database and be responsible for updating and maintaining it on an ongoing basis.
Dr Anish Mahajan has been appointed White House Fellow. His name figures in the list of national finalists for the 2009 -2010 class of White House Fellows along with 14 others.
