COVID-19: World Bank offers 1 billion USD for India’ Emergency Response Project
On April 1, 2020, the World Bank announced that it is to offer 1 billion USD to Government of India to implement Covid-19 Emergency Response and Health Systems preparedness project.
About the Project
The project is being launched by India in order to mitigate the threats created by the virus. It will strengthen the national system and keep up public health preparedness in the country.
The project is to run for 4 years. The funding of the project is to come from the World Bank’s COVID-19 Fast Track facility.
Key Features of the Project
The project is to measure progress of key indicators of containment of COVID-19 cases. This includes proportion of laboratory confirmed cases, responses to collected samples within time frame of 48 hours, conducting tests within WHO stipulated standard time to determine COVID-19, etc.
The Project document says that GoI has assessed that the outbreak of the virus is to continue in the coming years. Therefore, it is necessary to work on a long-term strategy to tackle the next wave of the disease.
