CORAS: Railway Ministry launches Commando for Railway Security
Union Ministry of Railways launched CORAS (Commando for Railway Security) of Indian Railways. It is separate Commando Unit of Railway Protection Force (RPF). It has been carved out from motivated and willing young staff of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF).
About Commando for Railway Security (CORAS)
Vision Statement of CORAS: (i) Develop world level capabilities of specialized responder for any situation pertaining to damage, disturbance, disruption of train/railway operations, attack/hijack/ hostage, disaster situations in railway areas. (ii) Providing fool proof security to Indian Railways and its users by following doctrine of graded response, minimum effective force.
CORAS commandoes: The average age of CORAS commandoes will be between 30-35 years. These CORAS commandos will be posted in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)/Insurgency/Terrorism affected Railway areas where providing security to passengers and railway network is of utmost priority.
