Conch of Marsoulas
The conch of Marsoulas is an ancient seashell horn that was used as a wind instrument some 18,000 years ago. It was discovered in 1931 in the Marsoulas Cave at the foothills of French Pyrenees. It is the shell of a marine molluscan called the Charonia lampas that has been modified by the Magdalenian hunter-gatherers. It is believed to have been used during rituals and social events. Recently, researchers were able to reproduce the sound of this instrument.
