On the early hours of Friday, January 17, 2020, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched the latest communication satellite GSAT-30 from the Kourou Launch Base in French Guiana located in the South American Continent. GSAT-30 was lifted off by the launch vehicle Ariane 5 VA-251, which also carried the EUTELSAT KONNECT satellite of the European satellite operator, Eutelsat.
Satellite GSAT-30 derives its heritage from the earlier INSAT/GSAT series of ISRO was separated from the launch vehicle after a flight of 38minutes, 25 seconds into an elliptical Geosynchronous transfer orbit. It will be replacing the INSAT-4A satellite in orbit and will provide continuity to operational services for some of the in-orbit satellites. The command and control of GST-30 were taken over by ISRO’s Master Control Facility located in the Hassan district of Karnataka immediately after its separation. The satellite will be operational once it enters the final orbital configuration to complete the in-orbit tests successfully.
