Commitment by Union Minister for making Roads Safer in India
With an aim to reduce road accidents, India’s Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways & Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Nitin Gadkari, repeated his Ministry’s commitment which is making roads safer for all and this will be done by engaging stakeholders and larger communities in many awareness activities on road safety which will encourage everyone to join hands in making roads safer.
Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, requested people to help the victims of road accidents and to spread awareness about the need for road safety by using social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
Today, on 13th January 2020, a new project called Integrated Road Accident Database (IRAD) is launched by Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways & Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Nitin Gadkari, which is a database of road accident developed and executed with the help of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, NIC and supported by World Bank. It is the first step taken for achieving road safety management.
Integrated Road Accident Database (IRAD) will be a web-based IT solution and will enable many agencies to enter details on a road accident, like Police, PWDs, NHAI, etc.
