Colombo terminal project

Colombo terminal project is a collaboration among India, Japan and Sri Lanka to develop the ECT or East Container Terminal, located on the southern part of Colombo Port. The tripartite agreement was signed in 2019 but was stalled in 2020 following protests from Sri Lankan labor unions. Recently, the Sri Lankan government reneged on the 2019 agreement and as a compensation, proposed the development of the West Terminal as a PPP with Japan and India.
