Coal mine auctions opens access to forests in Central India
Forty-one coalmines that were up for auction include fully explored and partially explored mines in states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha. In this list, some of the mines are in biodiversity rich forest areas of central India, including a few in one of the largest contiguous stretches of dense forests called Hasdeo Arand (1,70,000 hectares). Many of these mines do not have necessary clearance and are in the midst of protected forests.
