Cloud computing refers to the delivery of computing services which may include computer servers, data storage, databases, networking, software development, analytics, and intelligence facilities on the Internet. This entire process is known as the cloud and it offers faster innovation timelines, very flexible resources, and better economies of scale.
Types of cloud computing
There are three main types of cloud computing which are offered to the companies. These are-
- Infrastructure as a service (IaaS): IaaS is the most fundamental category of cloud computing services. In IaaS, one can rent IT infrastructures like servers and virtual machines (VMs), storage, networks, operating systems.
- Platform as a service (PaaS): Platform as a service is the service of cloud computing which supply an on-demand environment for the development, testing, delivery and management of software applications.
- Software as a service (SaaS): The Software as a service is a method which is used for delivering software applications over the Internet, on-demand and typically on a subscription basis.

Why is it in the news?
The Reliance Industries backed Jio Group and the United States-based IT giant Microsoft has announced a new partnership in which Reliance will set up a large network of world-class data centers in the country. These data centers will be powered by the Azure Cloud platform developed by Microsoft.
In line with the Indian Government’s impetus to improve the startup ecosystem in the country, the partnership has also announced that it would support budding startups by offering the services of its cloud technology and internet connectivity freely.?
