Clean Green Village Week

The Clean Green Village week was celebrated between 29th October 2021 and 4th November 2021. The week was celebrated under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

About the Clean Green Village Week

The week was celebrated as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is celebrating 75 years of independence. It was launched by Prime Minister Modi. The Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is celebrated for 75 weeks till August 2022.

Focus of Clean Green Village Week

The Clean Green Village Week focuses on the following:

  • Identification and construction of soak pits. A soak pit is a porous walled chamber constructed to allow water to get soaked into the ground.
  • Construction of vermi compost
  • Waste to wealth initiatives: They include recycling of non-biodegradable waste, reuse of waste materials

Events held during Clean Green Village Week

During the Clean Green Village Week, around 1,970 events were held by the states and union territories. Of these around 2,597 waste to wealth initiatives were completed. Also, 2,262 compost pits and 8,887 soak pits were constructed.

Implementation Agency

The Clean Green Village Week was implemented by Ministry of Rural Development. During the week, the ministry encouraged the Gram Panchayats to take up cleanliness initiatives. They created awareness about the importance of cleanliness in the surrounding. Also, the ministry encouraged the Gram Panchayats to take up initiatives that would improve their livelihood. The ministry also laid emphasis on construction of toilets in schools and Anganwadi, village drain, recharge pits, soakage channel, stabilization pond, liquid bio manure.
