Chucarosaurus Diripienda

In 2018, a groundbreaking discovery took place in the Southern Patagonia region of Argentina. Paleontologists uncovered the remains of a colossal new species of long-necked herbivorous dinosaur. Introducing Chucarosaurus Diripienda

The dinosaur discovered in Patagonia has been named Chucarosaurus Diripienda. The name holds significance as it reflects the circumstances surrounding the discovery. Paleontologist Nicolas Chimento explained that the dinosaur was named “Chucarosaurus Diripienda,” which translates to “hard-boiled and scrambled.” This choice of name stems from the fact that despite the accident during transportation, where the van carrying the dinosaur’s bones tipped over, the remains remained intact.

Impressive Size and Weight

The Chucarosaurus is truly a behemoth among dinosaurs. Wighing an astonishing 50 tonnes and measuring approximately 30 meters in length, it is the largest dinosaur ever discovered in the mountainous Rio Negro province. Its femur bone alone spanned an impressive 1.90 meters and was so heavy that it had to be split into three parts, each weighing over 100 kilograms.

Patagonia, the region where the Chucarosaurus was found, is known for its rich dinosaur fossil record. The area was home to the world’s largest plant-eating dinosaurs, including the colossal Patagotitan mayorum. What makes these dinosaurs remarkable is their ability to grow at an incredibly fast rate and, in some cases, never stop growing throughout their lives. Scientists are still studying the reasons behind this exceptional growth pattern.

Argentina has proven to be a hotbed of dinosaur discoveries, with a staggering 140 dinosaur species identified in the country. This places Argentina among the top three countries for dinosaur research and discoveries, alongside China and the United States.
