About the Festival
The Chaitra Jatra is an annual festival celebrated at the Taratarini Temple in Odisha. It is observed in the month of Chaitra, when lakhs of devotees visit the temple. It is a major centre of Shakti worship. The congregation was cancelled in precaution against the COVID-19 spread.
Taratarini Temple
The Taratarini Temple is located on the Kumari Hill in Odisha. It is located on the bank of River Rushikulya, noted for the presence of Olive Ridley nesting sites at its mouth. The temple is one of the oldest pilgrimage centres for the worship of the Mother Goddess.
INSV Tarini
INSV Tarini is a sailboat operated by the Indian navy. It was named after the Taratarini Temple. The sailboat was used during the mission of the first Indian all-woman crew to circumnavigate the world. This mission was called the Navika Sagar Parikrama.
