Centre Bans NLFT and ATTF

The Ministry of Home Affairs in India has issued a gazetted notification banning Tripura-based insurgent groups, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), along with their associate organizations for a period of five years. The ban has been imposed due to their involvement in subversive activities and threats to India’s sovereignty and integrity.

Objectives of NLFT and ATTF

The notification states that the NLFT and ATTF aim to establish an independent nation by advocating the secession of Tripura from India through an armed struggle.
They are also alleged to incite indigenous people in Tripura to support their cause and engage in violent activities.

Subversive and Violent Activities

The Home Ministry contends that these insurgent groups have been actively involved in subversive and violent activities that undermine the authority of the government and spread fear and terror among the population.
These activities are considered prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India.

Government Action

The ban on NLFT and ATTF is seen as a measure to curb their activities and maintain law and order in the region.
The government has taken this action based on its assessment of the groups’ actions and their impact on the security and stability of Tripura and the nation as a whole.
