Central Employment Guarantee Council Meet chaired by Rural Development Minister
On June 2, 2020, the Union Minister of Rural Development Shri Narendra Singh Tomar chaired the 21st meeting of the Central Employment Guarantee Council.
Highlights
During the meet, it was highlighted that the GoI has created assets for irrigation and water conservation. Also, individual assets have been created to help agriculture under MGNREGA. All time high amount was allocated to MGNREGA during the COVID-19 times. The GoI allocated around Rs 61,500. Also, under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, additional amount of Rs 40,000 was allocated.
Central Employment Guarantee Council
The Council monitors and Evaluates MGNREGA. It also advises the GoI about the implementation of the scheme. The council also prepares annual reports about the implementation of the act. The act makes the council meet compulsory at least twice a year.
The CEGC is headed by the Rural Development Minister. It is made of both official and non-official members.
Legislation
The meeting was held as under Section 10 of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). There are 261 permissible works under the act. Out of these, 164 works relate to agriculture and allied activities.
