Celebrate September as Month of Nutrition: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced to celebrate September 2019 as a month of nutrition. The announcement was made in his latest Mann Ki Baat programe in which he laid emphasis on creating awareness to fight malnutrition among children, particularly girl child.

Key Highlights

The month of September will be celebrated as ‘Poshan Abhiyaan’ across India.

Due to lack of awareness, both poor and affluent families are affected by malnutrition, therefore, PM urged countrymen to get connected with and get information about this initiative, add some new features to ‘Poshan Abhiyaan’ by contributing to it.

In 2018, Gujarat Government launched a pilot project called Poshan Abhiyan which is a statewide mission to eradicate malnutrition among children.

Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani had also launched PURNA project or Prevention of under Nutrition and Reduction of Nutritional Anaemia among Adolescent Girls, to eliminate malnutrition among girls in age group of 14 to 18 years.

State Government had allocated Rs.270 crore for this pilot project. Now, the awareness campaign during September will further boost Poshan Abhiyan in state.
