Ceasefire between Union Government and NSCN extended by another year

The Ceasefire between the Centre and the NSCN-IM (National Socialist Council of Nagaland- Isak Muivah) has been extended by another year i.e. till April 2017.
In this regard, the ceasefire agreement was signed between the Union Government and GPRN/NSCN, one of the strongest factions of Nagaland.
The sole purpose of the extension is to boost to the Naga peace process and bring long lasting peace in Nagaland.
The signatories also agreed that the Ceasefire Ground Rules will subject to mutual review and amendment with involvement of both the parties.
Background
The Union Government and the insurgent group NSCN had entered into a ceasefire accord in 1997. Since then, they have continued with the peace process. The Union Government has also reached a ceasefire agreement with of NSCN Khaplang faction which has been banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
In August 2015, NSCN-IM had entered into an historic Peace Accord (Framework Agreement) with Union government to bring lasting peace in Nagaland.
