CDS proposes Air Defence Command

The first meeting with Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff Branch(Hq IDS) heads of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Bipin Rawat was conducted on Wednesday,  1st January 2020. During the meeting, the Chief of Defence staff outlined certain priorities: directed a proposal that by June 30 this year, Air Defence Command to be created and among the three services of India’s Defence, creative jointness and synergy. Defence Stations to have common logistics support pools where at least two or all three services will have their presence has been identified as one of the areas for creative jointness and synergy.

Other outcomes from the first meeting: All three services and the Indian Coast Guard will be consulted for the proper functioning of the collegiate system, following which decisions will be taken keeping in view of the priorities with healthy views and ideas. In a broader view, the mandate from the first meeting is clearly to bring jointness in operations, logistics, communications, and training of the three services.
