Canada, India Film (Audio-Visual) Co-Production Treaty comes into being
Ending a long wait, India, and its colossus Bollywood film industry, from July 1, 2014 became the 54th country to have an official Audio-Visual Co-production Treaty with Canada. The pact will allow film producers of both nations to exploit various incentives and tax breaks offered by both governments. This kind of government-approved and subsidized coordination treaty between the Canadian and Indian film industries is unprecedented.
For Bollywood, large Indo-Canadian communities in Vancouver and Toronto are considered main overseas markets. The treaty will allow producers from both countries to share production of films and TV projects. The pact would pep up the interest of Bollywood to shoot more films in Canada, and offer more of its stuff before the emergent Indo-Canadian market.
