Call Centre for Assisting the Members of Parliament (MPs)

A unique initiative taken by the 17th Speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla for improving the overall efficiency of the lawmakers has been given room no 13, a dedicated room inside the Parliament House Annex. The initiative is a 24/7 call centre that will be assisting the Members of the Parliament who along with managing their constituencies have to juggle in performing their responsibilities related to the Parliament. ‘Information and Communication Centre’ is the name of the call centre that will assist the Members of the Parliament from administrative to functional issues. Started as a pilot project in November 2019, the call centre has been receiving a steady stream of enquiries.

As per media reports, there has been a number of queries related to background research papers on various subjects and travel bills during the last two weeks of the winter session of 2019 of the Parliament. Also, there were a number of appointment-related queries for the ‘Health Awareness and Check-up Camp’ organized at the Parliament House from 20th November to 4th December 2019 for the Members of Parliament under the coordination of the Lok Sabha Secretariat with the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS).

By the end of the year, the call centre was scheduled to be fully operational. As on 27th December media reports apart from the separate room for operating the call centre, three officials have also been deployed for the operating the centre. The call centre is initially launched for the Lok Sabha members but is expected to be used in future for providing similar assistance for the Rajya Sabha members.
