CAG Vinod Rai re-elected as chairman of UN external auditors panel

image Vinod Rai who is current Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has been re-elected as the chairman of the panel of external auditors of the United Nations (UN).

What the panel is all about?

The panel which was formed in 1959 through a resolution of UN General Assembly comprises of individual external auditors who are heads of supreme audit institutions of various countries.

Role:
The panel plays a significant role in promoting accountability and bolstering governance mechanisms in the UN organisations. The panel convenes annual meeting to talk about emerging issues in the audit of UN specialized agencies such as the World Health Organisation, the World Food Programme, the World Intellectual Property Organisation, and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Countries whose official auditors currently part of the panel are Canada, China, France, India, Italy, Pakistan, the Philippines, Switzerland, Tanzania and Britain.

Currently the chairmanship of the panel is under India’s CAG.
