Brighstoneus simmondsi
Brighstoneus simmondsi is a dinosaur. It was discovered in November 2021 by the UK scientists. It was discovered in a village called Brightstoneus and thus was named after it.
What are the features of Brighstoneus simmondsi?
The dinosaur is eight metre long. It lived four million years ago. It weighed more than 900 kgs. The Brighstoneus simmondsi was extracted in 1978. It was found along side Neovenator salrii. The Neovenator is a meat-eating dinosaur. However, Brighstoneus is closely related to plant eating dinosaur Iguanodon.
How are Brighstoneus different Iguanodon?
Earlier, the Brighstoneus was believed to belong to the Iguanodon. The bones of Brighstoneus were related to Iguanodon largely. The difference was note in the skull. And the bulbous nose. The upper jaw of Brighstoneus has a main ridge in the inner side and also secondary ridge of teeth. The nasal bone is expanded to a swollen bulla behind the nostril. These features distinguish Brighstoneus from Iguanodon.
How was Brighstoneus related to Mantellisaurus?
In 2019, scientists proved that Brighstoneus is different from Mantellisaurus. Mantellisaurus was smaller than Brighstoneus. It weighed around 75 kg. Unlike Brighstoneus, their forelimbs were smaller and half the length of the hind limbs.
