Bihar Caste-based Census
The government of Bihar will soon be conducting a caste-based census in the state. This decision was taken at an all-party meeting that was chaired by Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of the state on 1st June 2022.
What is the name of this exercise?
The Chief Minister announced that the exercise would be named Jaati Aadharit Ganana. The decision to go ahead with this exercise was unanimously taken by all the political parties of the state that were present at the meeting, including the BJP. The state government will be ensuring that the entire exercise is completed within a stipulated time. This census will be conducted for people belonging to every caste and religion.
What is the purpose of the exercise?
This exercise will be conducted with the purpose of carrying out developmental work for people of the state who are deprived. A proposal to conduct this census will be soon brought before the state’s cabinet for approval, following which this exercise will begin. Conducting this caste-based census will be a difficult task involving huge expenditures for which necessary arrangements have to be made. The people who will be involved in the data collection for this exercise will be given proper training. The data that will be gathered will be released by the State Government through advertisements in newspapers. The details of the census will also be shared with all relevant stakeholders and other authorities including all political parties.
