Bhitarkanika National Park

Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha received designation in 1998 and obtained the status of a Ramsar site in 2002. It is located 35 km from Chilika lake. Migratory birds in and around Bhitarkanika National Park and Chilika lake left few weeks earlier than usual due to the soaring temperature in the region. Usually, these birds arrive in November and migrate homeward around mid-March or early April, when the temperature is around 39 degree Celsius.
