About Bhabha Kavach
India’s Lightest Bullet Proof Jacket ‘Bhabha Kavach’ by was launched at the International Police Expo 2019.
Indigenously Developed: by Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI).
Features:
It is a state-of-the-art jacket that can withstand 7.62mm hard steel core or bullets fired from an AK-47 rifle, 5.56mm INSAS (INdian Small Arms System) bullet and even recently decommissioned 7.65mm bullet of self-loading rifle (SLR).
It has four hard armour plates that offers 360 Degree Protection to wearer from the front, back, and either side.
BARC: It is powered with nano technology from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). The BARC’s carbon nanomaterial sprayed on hard armour plate instils the toughness and tenacity needed to slow down and trap a bullet as it passes through the plate.
Layers: It is built from layers of high-density, high-tenacity polyethelene, which are thermo-sealed i.e. layers are fused together at high temperature which then forms thick, hard armour plate that is then sprayed with BARC’s carbon nanomaterial.
Weight: It is half Kilogram lesser than prescribed weight of MHA i.e. it only weighs 9.2kg.
Protection Level: It has achieved protection level of NIJ III+ (National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Ballistic Levels Protection Level III). The jacket has a 5 year warranty.
Need: The rising graph of instances related to terrorism, cyber crime & various other kind of ethnic group conflicts have increased demand for a robust homeland infrastructure in India.
Significance:
Bhabha Kavach is the lightest and a better jacket now available for Indian Defense forces which will be a great piece of equipment for India’s paramilitary forces and state police forces operating in Naxalite areas.
Right from development stage, the developers received immense response from armed forces for Bhabha Kavach.
