Bengaluru Unveils Digital Population Clock

Bengaluru is set to launch its first digital population clock. This event will take place at the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) on November 8, 2024. The clock will display real-time population estimates for Karnataka and India. This initiative aims to enhance awareness of population dynamics. It is a collaboration between ISEC and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

Purpose of the Digital Clock

The digital clock serves multiple purposes. It provides accurate population data for research. It acts as a visual reminder of the rapid population growth in India. The clock updates Karnataka’s population every minute and 10 seconds. In contrast, India’s total population updates every two seconds.

Technical Features

The clock operates with high precision. It maintains accuracy through a satellite connection. This technology allows it to function independently. The components are fully integrated, ensuring seamless operation. The clock’s real-time updates provide valuable vital information about demographic changes.

Broader Impact

This project extends beyond Bengaluru. MoHFW plans to install similar clocks in 18 Population Research Centres across India. These installations aim to promote awareness of demographic changes nationwide. The clocks will serve as important tools for researchers and policymakers.

Census Data Research Workstation

Alongside the clock, ISEC introduces a new Census Data Research Workstation. This facility is also supported by MoHFW. It provides researchers and students with access to comprehensive census data. The workstation is equipped with advanced software. This technology enables rigorous studies on population trends. It aims to inform policy and planning processes effectively.

Inauguration Details

The official inauguration will feature notable attendees. Kal Singh, Director General of MoHFW, will be present. Other important figures include Sukhadeo Thorat, ISEC Board Chairman, and faculty members. This gathering marks the importance of the initiative in enhancing public understanding of India’s evolving population landscape.

Importance for Demographic Studies

The digital clock and research workstation aim to support scholars. They provide essential tools for demographic studies. This initiative enhances public understanding of population dynamics. It encourages informed discussions on sustainable development and policy planning.
