Beautiful Restaurants on Wheels
The Indian Railways is embarking on an exciting project to breathe new life into two abandoned railway coaches by converting them into theme-based restaurants. This innovative initiative, known as “Beautiful Restaurants on Wheels,” aims to refurbish and transform old train coaches into charming rail coach restaurants.
Journey to Transformation
Under the “Beautiful Restaurants on Wheels” scheme, the Indian Railways is giving a fresh lease of life to old railway coaches. The first step involves selecting two railway stations, Katra and Jammu, as the locations for these unique restaurants. Tenders have been awarded to two different parties to bring this project to fruition.
A Taste of Excellence
The two upcoming AC restaurants at Jammu and Katra railway stations are expected to generate an annual revenue of Rs 50 lakh each. These restaurants will occupy spacious areas, spanning 1,600 square feet each. What sets this project apart is that private parties are being invited to create state-of-the-art restaurants with their own unique designs.
Opening Soon
The first rail-coach restaurant is anticipated to open its doors by December, with the coaches already in place. These dining establishments will be named ‘Annapurna’ and ‘Maa Durga,’ adding a touch of local charm.
A Nationwide Phenomenon
This initiative isn’t limited to Jammu and Katra. Similar rail-coach restaurants have already proven successful at nine to ten major railway stations across India. The project has been experimented with nationwide, with operational restaurants in cities like Jabalpur, Bhopal, Lucknow, and Varanasi.
Beyond Dining: An Immersive Experience
These Railways’ Food-on-Wheels restaurants won’t just be about delectable dishes; they will also feature stylish interiors and exteriors. Display panels will offer virtual tours of various destinations in Jammu and Kashmir, featuring photos showcasing the rich cultural essence of Dograland.
