BCCI Awards 2024
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Awards took place on January 23, 2024 in Hyderabad. The glittering ceremony honoured exceptional Indian cricketers across domestic and international formats. The event had a star-studded guest list and presence of esteemed Board veterans.
Awardees accolades
- Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill and Ravichandran Ashwin headlined the awards for international performances in 2022-23, 2021-22 and 2019-20 seasons respectively.
- Ashwin also bagged the highest wickets tally in the India vs West Indies Test series and second Polly Umrigar Award, capping a glorious year.
- The women’s awards recognized standout years from Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma over the last 5 seasons.
- U-19 sensations, India legends and domestic circuit stars rounded up the rest of awardees list.
Lifetime Achievement honors
Former captain and coach, Ravi Shastri, alongside ex-Indian wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer were conferred the prestigious Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Awards. Their distinguished services to Indian cricket were highlighted. Shastri’s role in transforming the team’s mindset and shaping recent overseas heroics received glowing tributes.
Domestic stalwarts shine
Some lesser known but immensely talented domestic performers also earned applause. The highest run-getters and wicket-takers across junior, women’s and senior level tournaments got felicitated. State teams were also rewarded – Saurashtra (2022-23), Mumbai (2021-22) and hosts Madhya Pradesh (2020-21) for Ranji Trophy feats over the last seasons.
Young talent recognition
Promising youngsters like batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and all-rounder Shafali Verma, among other age-group achievements, were acknowledged. Kashvee Gautam’s emergence as most expensive Women’s Premier League (WPL) pick days before BCCI Awards made her Best Junior Women’s Cricketer honor timely. Such incentives should motivate youth transitioning to the elite level.
