Bagha Jatin

Bagha Jatin (meaning ‘tiger Jatin’) or Jatindranath Mukherjee was a revolutionary freedom fighter born in Kushtia in Bangladesh. He acquired the ‘Bagha’ epithet after he singlehandedly fought and killed a Royal Bengal Tiger. He is known for his clarion call, ‘amra morbo, jagat jagbe’, meaning ‘we shall die to awaken the nation’. He was the commander-in-chief of the Jugantar Party and trained the local youth in guerrilla warfare. He was killed in the Battle of Balasore.
