Babur II Missile
Despite the ongoing COVID-19 situation, scarce resources for treating infected people and protecting the general population, Pakistan tested the Babur II missile amid criticism.
About the Missile
The missile, named after the first Mughal Emperor Babur, is of the sub-sonic category. The missile is being built in response to India’s Nirbhay Missile, which has already been tested 6 times. The Babur II is to have a 750 km range, terrain hugging and sea skimming capabilities.
The Test
This is the second test of the Babur II Missile. The first test was conducted on April 10th, 2018 and had failed. The recent test was witnessed by top military officials of the country, including Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of General Staff, Pakistan General Headquarters, Rawalpindi. The second test had also failed.
Sonmiani Test Range
The Babur II Missile test was conducted in the Sonmiani Test Range in Balochistan Province of Pakistan. It is a rocket launch facility operated by the SUPARCO (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission), the national space agency of Pakistan.
