B2B Global Conference & Expo on Traditional Medicine
The first B2B Global Conference & Expo on Traditional Medicine under the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will be hosted by the Assam government to promote traditional medicines at the global level. The event will be held in Guwahati.
About the Conference
The conference will be attended by over 150 delegates from 13 member countries, while others will participate virtually. The conference and expo will provide a platform for regulators, industries and business leaders in all the SCO and partner countries to discuss various aspects of traditional medicine. This 4-day international summit is scheduled from 2nd to 5th March. India is to host SCO 2023.
India promotes traditional medicines
In recent years, India has been promoting traditional medicines. The World Health Organization – Global Centre for Traditional Medicine was established in Jamnagar. Through this centre, India aims to integrate technological advancements in the production of traditional medicines. The centre will help India implement the WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy 2014-23 in the country.
Significance of the conference
According to the WHO, more than 80% of the world’s population is using traditional medicines. The conference will help India serve as a hub for traditional medicines. Also, it will help India make standards for traditional medicine products and practices.
What are the recent steps of India in traditional medicines?
The Ministry of AYUSH and the WHO signed the Project Collaboration Agreement in 2016. Under the agreement, the duo will create benchmarks for Ayurveda, yoga, Panchakarma, and Unani. Also, they will promote the safety and quality of traditional medicines.
India has signed more than 32 MoUs with the UK, the US, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Hungary, Korea, Reunion Island, Indonesia, Tajikistan, Hungary, Ecuador, etc.
CSIR signed an agreement with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to identify opportunities for research in traditional medicines
India is now using Artificial Intelligence to map the trends in traditional medicines.
